Following is a list of concerns that people in a Tacoma, Washington voting precinct told me they would like addressed:
Wouldn't it be less expensive to run vans instead of buses carrying only one or two people?
Why does it take a 3-hour bus ride to get from the University of Washington-Tacoma campus to my home (about) six miles away and via Lakewood with me taking only one stop to drop off my child at daycare?
[This seemed to be an unspoken question – people weren't quite articulating that they didn't know who to contact with their question: Who sits on Transit boards and why? How does resident input get addressed?]
Why do taxes never go away, or sunset?
Why isn't the state lottery taking care of bonds and levies as promised voters who approved the lottery 10 – 15 years ago?
Why do property taxes keep going up while the city assessor's office keeps devaluing my home? I am being taxed out of my home.
War money should go to other things.
If a public agency's budget has designated money for “here”, why do they say “there's no money” in the budget while the public agency purchases new vehicles (again) and people get laid off?
If voters keep voting down parks bonds / levies, why do we have to keep paying for their advertisements “to vote for” yet another (the same?) bond / levy we rejected on the last ballots?
Why is the Port of Tacoma not yet self-sufficient as promised during the creation phase?
Do legislators have to pay taxes on car tabs like taxpayers do – why do they get Exempt plates?
Why was my street paved except to last block to the main street?
Why are my taxes paying for some people's heater and windows but I had to pay for my own?
More government openness. Don't spend $50,000 on a study but DO tell us the results of any studies you commissioned.
Why are medical and food stamp expenses the responsibility of taxpayers?
Why am I paying for public schools while parents with children are receiving $7,500 back on taxes? Why am I being taxed for having kept my pants zipped (and had no children for taxpayers to educate and support)?
HUMAN RELATIONS / EQUITY
Bullies, especially in the workplace and including bosses.
Domestic violence toward men is grossly underreported so can't be addressed appropriately.
People – too much greediness, more bad people than good.

Equal pay and equal jobs for women. Corporations not training women for higher jobs.
Age discrimination – Supreme Court won't enforce.
Residents without documentation should go through legal process to emigrate.
Why isn't there a program for helping ADHD kids in school – discipline, lithium?
I want great public schools for my daughter.
Will financial aid be available for my 5-year old daughter when she needs it for college?
CITY OPERATIONS (TACOMA)
Utilities – why do I pay $200 / month for water to go into the ground while Parkland residents don't?
Barking neighbor dogs – We can't get uninterrupted sleep necessary to function effectively.
Why does our city have a sister cities program? Who does this benefit?
Why weren't residents asked if we wanted a foreign pagoda for dead people?
Why does the city settle all litigation and pay attorney consultants when we hire attorneys on city staff?
Why do city employees receive raises when the rest of us didn't (and it makes it harder to pay our higher taxes on our home when we didn't receive a raise)?
Why are the 1-1/2 hour street parking spots around University of Washington-Tacoma empty (no occasional shoppers to business owners that demanded the open spots) while we students are forced to park farther away from our classes?
Does the city know what properties it owns yet?
Why is city in the apartment business – tideflats, Verandas?
Fix potholes in city and alleyways.
More police presence.

Are there any plain English advocates to guide me (or senior citizens with low vision) through Medicare government paperwork that doesn't make sense?
What is the “doughnut hole”? Why am I in it?
Why am I going to lose my house because I have a life-threatening illness?
For those of us on Medicare, shouldn't 'all healthcare for all' mean all healthcare (dental, vision, hearing)?
Shouldn't electeds be held to same laws they create for us – Affordable Care Act?
Why can't our healthcare be like elected officials?
Initiative 502 killed medical marijuana that passed 11 years ago.
Why are there so few effective resources for those with chemical dependency?
PRISON / FELONS
Revamp prison system.
Pedophiles – too many of them and no effective rehabilitation.
People with felonies need to be identified as such and not labeled as felons.
We need true rehabilitation for “felons”.
